In Wisconsin, the laws against drunk driving will become stricter beginning July 1. They will not be as strict as some states but the new laws are what officials say are a step in the right direction.

Between May 4 and May 16 there was 34 people booked in jail for drunken driving charges and officials want to lower this number significantly. The new laws will especially target teen offenders and people with multiple infractions.

If there is a child of 16 years of age in the car when pulled over for drunken driving it will not be a traffic offense but now a misdemeanor which makes it a crime. Also, jailtime for third time OWI offenses has not been pushed to 45 days instead of 30.
