Man receives OWI arrest, officials want to toughen laws

A 54-year-old man was arrested for his 7th drunken driving charge when police pulled him over for almost striking a police car. The news of this arrest has officials concerned that law enforcement needs more power to make drunken driving laws tougher.

When the man was pulled over for swerving through lanes of traffic he had a blood alcohol content of .23, which is nearly four times the legal limit. This being the man’s 7th OWI arrest has shown police that they need to do something to decrease the drunk driving problem in the state.

Some say that the drunk driving laws in Wisconsin are lenient. They are not allowed to set up sobriety check points in the state and the charge is not a felony until the 5th offense. Police officials are trying to change this now.
