Police increase OWI enforcement on Super Bowl Sunday

In order to combat an increase number of impaired drivers on the roadway after various Super Bowl parties, the Wisconsin State Patrol stepped up their enforcement.

In the state’s history, drunk driving arrests on Super Bowl Sunday are usually 30 to 40 percent higher than any average Sunday.

Brown County has been trying to cut down on the number of drunk drivers for quite some time and initiated a task force last year to target impaired drivers. Officials in the county have stated that they have seen remarkable results.

“We go somewhere in the 70s to somewhere around 112 so we definitely see a big increase Super Bowl Sunday when we look at the Sunday before and Sunday after. It’s a big spike on Super Bowl Sunday night in terms of OWI’S,” Mike Panosh, with the Wisconsin State Patrol said.
