Driver cited after causing wrong-way collision

A wrong-way driver has been cited for multiple driving infractions, including OWI and reckless driving, after causing a collision that left a police officer seriously injured.

The Milwaukee police officer had just left his shift when the accident took place. The 23-year-old driver who caused the accident was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Interstate 94 when their vehicles collided.

After the accident occurred, both drivers were trapped inside their cars and had to be extricated by emergency crews. They were transported to the hospital in critical condition after the car accident.

I-94 was shut down for multiple hours as crews worked to clear the area.
