Two involved in near fatal motorcycle crash along Vernon County Highway K

Two individuals riding on the same motorcycle were involved in an accident along County Highway K near Genoa Township around 5:30 p.m., April 20.

According to Sheriff John B. Spears, the motorcycle was being driven by 48-year-old Jose Miguel Leon of Stoddard, WI., along with his 44-year-old passenger Jacqueline J. Helgeson, also from Stoddard, when the crash happened. Leon apparently lost control and slid into a field while coming around a dangerous curve. Both riders were thrown several feet off the motorcycle as it rolled over and landed on top of Helgeson’s body. A few motorists who witnessed the incident came to help lift the motorcycle to free Helgeson.

Both victims were rushed to separate hospitals in Lacrosse, where they were treated for serious injuries. Reports indicate that neither one of the victims had safety helmets on during the accident.
