Chrysler SUV malfunction triggers world-wide recall

Chrysler will carry out a global recall of a total of 630,000 SUVs, according to data gathered from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The recall will involve at least 409,000 Jeep Patriot models and 2010-2012 edition Compass SUVs world-wide that have air bag and seat-belt defects. Additionally, 221,000 2012 and 2013 edition Jeep Wranglers will also be recalled for transmission fluid leaks.

An air bag software malfunction in the Patriot and Compass models was feared to cause delayed deployment. In addition, the seat-belt mechanisms pose a potential serious danger in the event of a rollover accident. The repair of the software will be done at no cost to consumers starting in July by corresponding dealers.

As for 3.6-liter V-6 engine Wranglers, Chrysler discovered flaws in the transmission cooler line caused by the power steering fluid assembly. Dealers will also inspect and replace the lines for free.
