Ford announces repairs of 467,000 defective cars

U.S. auto manufacturer Ford said in a statement on June 21 that a projected total of 467,000 defective Taurus and Mercury Sable cars will be scheduled for examination and repair. The repairs will be made through the end of August 2013.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) stopped all ongoing investigation, which began last year in October, as a result of this announcement.

According to the NHSTA, the problem originated from the faulty design of engine cables, which were reported as being easily damaged every time car owners had battery or air filter maintenance. This faulty design led to a problem with speed control, as drivers had issues braking or slowing down normally.

Ford agreed to reimburse expenses paid by affected car owners for earlier repairs related to the auto defect.
