GM includes more than 800k vehicles in their recall

At least 842,000 more vehicles with a defective starter switch have been included in General Motors’ recent recall, CBS News reported on February 25.

The inclusion of additional vehicles in the recall is in connection to the earlier announcement by GM to recall 780,000 vehicles that were linked to fatal accidents due to faulty starters. According to the automaker, who was revealed to have knowledge of the problem a decade ago, the brakes, airbags, and steering of the affected vehicles may stop working due to power loss if the ignition switch turns to the “off” position. GM pointed out that using a heavy key ring and excessive vibration on the starter when driving off road may cause the problem.

A spokesman for GM said they will address the issue by changing the ignition switch at no cost, but they did not specify the time when the repairs will start as they do not have the proper parts yet.

Sadly, as we at Habush Habush & Rottier S.C. ® are aware, many people in Milwaukee have been injured or even killed in accidents as a result of defective vehicles. Call us at 800-242-2874 if you or a loved one is dealing with the aftermath of such a situation.
